First of all let me say that I like Akismet, a short while ago I was having no problem with spam at all. The screenshot above is from my other site and I haven’t had to deal with most of those 17,000 spam comments.

However…

I looked down at my WordPress dashboard today and saw that Akismet had caught my first spam comment. Out of curiosity I had a look to see which particular spammer had got there first and I’m glad I did — it was ham, what Akismet calls a non-spam message!

Meanwhile, on Unintentionally Blank this morning I found 5 spam messages proudly displaying themselves on my site.

Don’t Let The Spammers Win!

What can you do, eh? Staying vigilant is one way, stopping comments all together is the worst. I’ll be keeping an eye out for spam and keeping my blogs clean.

I’m just glad I’m not one of those popular bloggers that gets weighed down with hundreds or even thousands of spamments every day (maybe one day though!). I appreciate all blogs that keep comments active and even more so if they remove nofollow.

One day we’ll beat the spammers. One day!
